This project is located at Han Cheng City, Shaanxi Province, reconstructed from building group remained in the old town since Ming and Qing dynasties, which is a Chinese style B&B hotel(including catering) based on an artistic theme of courtyard culture in the central Shaanxi plain. Its name is The Ji Family’s Courtyard under the Chain brand of Mister’s Courtyard. This architectural complex not only inherits an ancient manner, but also exhibits a modern style, which is a delicate space for relaxation, an aesthetic site for appreciation and also a residence bred by tradition and modernity. The Ji Family’s Courtyard, devoted in detail and combined with artistic creativity, will reveal you a brand-new living experience infused with primitive simplicity and modern delicacy.
This building group is constituted by two quadrangle dwellings with three doors at both front and back. It has a strong Guan Zhong Style and also has a trait of being influenced by South Jin Culture. In design, several independent courtyards are connected laterally into an integral space. The designer has faced a challenge of making the route inside reasonable and dynamic. The drop structure is another challenge for the designer, since the appropriate drop structure makes the space gradation distinct and beautiful. Otherwise, the modern simplistic structure of doors and windows and the old buildings achieve complementarity.
Moving from noisy city to peaceful courtyard, you can find that the green brick ground, scree road, bluestone steps and various manufactured landscapes, like rockeries, bamboos, carpentries, waterfalls and lamps are linked into a long footpath, connecting those small yards with different functions. In the evening, the whole yard is shrouded by stratified shadow, giving people an illusion of space alternating and time coming back.
